We have started using our iPads in our classroom. Earphones and earbuds are very helpful so that your child and other children can focus on their work. I am asking if each child would bring in a small pair of headphones or earbuds that they will only use for THEMSELF - NO ONE ELSE WILL BE USING THEM. Please choose a pair that is comfortable for your child that are compatible with iPads. I will keep your child's earphones or earbuds in a plastic baggie marked with their name. Thanks for helping!
Print this out or mark these special days on your calendar! Our ECC and Elementary school students are participating in the following school spirit days. We can't wait for all of the fun!
A few things we have been practicing in school are taking turns, cooperating, sharing, following directions and getting along in a group. Kindergarten is the perfect time to learn both academics and social skills through play! Play is often left out in a school setting because of the amount of curriculum that needs to be covered and the many assessments that are given. Here are a couple of pictures from the 8th day of school. We learned how to play Crazy Eights! This is just one example of a simple game that the kids can work on number recognition and colors and at the same time have fun and learn social skills. The kids absolutely LOVE it! Both board games and card games can do the trick!
Today we had a special visit from Mrs. Peters, our school psychologist. She read us a story about whole body listening. We will be referring to Listening Larry, the main character from the story to remind us how to practice whole body listening in class and at home. You can look at the picture above, check your child's folder for a paper that Mrs. Peters gave us or ask your little one to explain all about whole body listening.
You will find a colored folder (like the one pictured above) in your child's backpack. This folder has a sticker on the front with your chid's name on it. This is going to serve as your child's home/school communication folder. We still haven't got our shipment of folders that the school gets the kids and these will work instead. If your child liked their folder that you provided from home, I let them keep that one to use. The kids will be responsible to get these folders out of their backpacks and check for any notes from home. Please check these folders each night and take out any papers that they finished in class or any papers that we get from the office. Tonight, you will find a homework assignment just like the one your child will get each week. There are four assignments on each paper and you can keep it at home and turn it in on each Friday.
We completed our second week of Kindergarten! We started something called Busy Bee this week. Busy Bee allows one child each day to lead the class through calendar, weather, color, rhyming, first sound, shape, numbers and counting activities during our morning meeting. The Busy Bee gets to use the Promethean Board. This special day also allows them to be the line leader and messenger for the day. I hope your little one tells you all about it on their special day!
