There have been some important things that have been coming home recently in your child's home/school folder. The first are some sight word flash cards. Please take a minute to cut these out and attach them to the metal ring that was sent home with them. More sight word cards will be sent home throughout the year to add to the ring. Sight words are words that the kids need to memorize not sound out. The kids need to learn them by sight (just by recognizing them). An easy way to learn them is to spell the word and then say it. If your child has trouble with a word, write the word on a post-it note and hang it around the house (on the bathroom mirror, in their bedroom, on the fridge, etc.). Above is a picture of the readers that came home this past week. Your child will be bringing these home often. The booklet on the left is a sight word reader - it includes our sight words that we are working on in school. The booklet on the right is a decodable reader. The skills that are reinforced in these books are listed on the bottom of each front page. These books are great for the kids to practice reading skills that we are working on in class. A fun thing to do at home is to get a shoe box or something similar and decorate it together. Your kindergartner can keep all of their readers inside and practice reading!
School is in full swing and you probably want to know all about your child's day. I found this list of questions that I wanted to share with you to make it a little easier.
