This week the kids got to follow direction cards and use specific materials to create different 2 and 3 dimensional shapes. They love doing it and I love how their little brains work and how they can problem solve so well!

This week we were lucky enough to practice some math skills that we have been working on this year with the Hands-on House from Lancaster. The museum came to our school with their "Math is a Picnic" program. Here is some of the fun that we had! Here we are estimating how big we need to make our sandwiches! We are fishing and measuring the fish we catch! We got to sort insects and spiders in many different ways! Here we are grilling hamburgers and hotdogs and we practiced addition, too! We made pies for our picnic using fractions! We practiced counting by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's! We explored symmetry with butterflies! We measured baked beans with volume and capacity! We practiced subtraction with the leaves on the trees at our picnic! We measured with weight and tried to create balance with our birds at the park! What a fun picnic we had with the Hands-on House! Make sure to look for your free ticket that came home in your child's folder. This is my favorite assembly that our very own PTO provides for us. Thanks PTO!
Today we had our 3-D Treasure Day and we had some great shapes to share with each other! We have been exploring spheres, cubes, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms and triangular prisms. The kids love it! Here are some pictures from today.
April is Autism Awareness Month. One thing I try to instill in the kids is that each of them is special in their own way. I can only hope that they leave kindergarten knowing that and see that in each other. We talked about how a person (child, adult, friend, etc.) with autism is someone who sometimes thinks or perceives things a little differently than others. Here we are "lighting it up blue" for autism awareness.
We are not only reading with our book buddies but writing, listening and working on comprehension, too! Here we are listening to a story and working together on answering questions about the book! Comprehending text is such an important skill to work on at this time. I just love seeing the kids work together! The kids are becoming such good friends that our book buddies are choosing books on topics that their kindergartner enjoys. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Brandt and Ms. Luppachini for sharing your kids with us! Check out the slideshow of some of our awesome work below. |
